WHERE CAN I BUY A STINGER SYSTEM?

We have provided a list of dealers on this website. We are also happy to supply your dealer with a quote for a system. From our shop, we also deliver our devices to end consumers, who can them have them installed at the workshop of their choice.

IS INSTALLATION COMPLICATED?

There is a certain amount of knowhow required to install our devices; however anyone who can install a car radio can install our devices. Our systems are modular in their design to ensure simple, hassle-free installation. You just need to install the receiver module, make some connections and install the display unit in the interior of your car as desired. We always recommend that you select an authorised workshop for the installation in order to ensure, for example, that the cables are neatly routed in the interior. However, specialist mobile phone or car hi-fi installation companies are also suitable. Our devices come with a German-language installation manual. We are available during the installation process if the installation mechanics have any questions. In addition, detailed information is available on our service website. The installation time will depend greatly on the type of vehicle and the installation position of the modules. Your dealer will be happy to provide you with a quote including installation. As a rough guide, you should allow five to six hours for a visually pleasing installation.

MY VEHICLE HAS BUILT-IN VEHICLE DISTANCE RADAR/SIDE ASSIST. WILL THAT CAUSE PROBLEMS?

Stinger devices are designed for installation in high-end vehicles. The integrated “in-car radar” filter (which can be switched on or off) and the high-precision HD antenna enables the blanket suppression of on-board signals. In complex cases (older vehicles with 1st generation radar transmitters which have become less precise over time ), a frequency list can be drawn up specifically for the vehicle. This service is free of charge. The vast majority of our customers’ vehicles are equipped with systems of this type.

I DRIVE A COMPANY/RENTED CAR AND/OR I CHANGE CARS FREQUENTLY. CAN MY STINGER BE REPEATEDLY RE-INSTALLED?

Usually, installation does not require any lasting changes. All components can be removed without trace for installation in the new vehicle. At the most, small parts such as cables, connectors and holders might need replaced. Removal is generally quicker than installation.

CAN I INSTALL MY STINGER SO IT IS COMPLETELY INVISIBLE?

When installed with care, the outer reception components are practically invisible. The interior displays (and/or card) provide useful information, and we recommend that they are installed visibly to allow you to use them. However, many customers prefer an unobtrusive installation. Lockable storage compartments, or the storage space in the central console are good locations in such cases. The VIP and DSI displays can be easily removed from the magnetic holder, and these devices also function without a visual display, providing solely acoustic warnings instead. On request, we can also make customised display solutions, such as mini displays or invisible switches.

CAN THE STINGERS BE LOCATED ELECTRONICALLY?

Stinger devices are protected against all types of tracking.

HOW DO I GET UPDATES? DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM?

Software updates are available for download free of charge via the “Stinger Desktop” programme (for Windows PC or Apple Mac), direct from the Stinger server. Updates to the international spot list (fixed measurement database) are available to our customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland free of charge via our service website.

The modular design also allows hardware to be updated. Cost-effective upgrade offers are available.

WHY ARE STINGERS LEGAL?

Our devices offer functions such as the logbook and “Police Check” evidence collection, which can be used legally throughout Europe. For the “Police Check”, the installed sensors are also required. The devices’ range of functions is determined by the installed software. In some countries, the use of the warning functions is not permitted. In order to enable international usage, warning functions can be switched off at the border with the push of a button, for example. Switching them on again is not possible within the vehicle, as this requires the re-installation of the software. This corresponds to the usage of smart phones, which are also prohibited from having software which provides warning of fixed measurement points.

Naturally, the devices are approved for vehicle installation, and have the required e4 and CE certification marks.

I LIVE IN SWITZERLAND CAN STINGERS BE USED HERE?

In Switzerland, the operation, possession and importation of warning devices has been prohibited for many years under Article 57b of the Swiss Road Traffic Act (Strassenverkehrsgesetz, SVG). Therefore, for all deliveries to Switzerland, the pre-installed software allows only the use of the functions legal in Switzerland, such as the logbook, police check and safety signals. On 17 September 2009, the Swiss Federal Roads Office (Bundesamt für Straßen ASTRA) assured us that, from the perspective of Swiss traffic law, there is nothing to rule out the use of our devices under these conditions.

We hereby inform you that using Stinger devices with software intended for use outside Switzerland constitutes a violation of the Swiss Road Traffic Act (SVG) and is punishable by a fine. Drivers entering Switzerland from other countries must switch off the warning function when they cross the border. As with smart phones, software including a warning function may not be uploaded onto the device.

For deliveries to Switzerland, the German VAT rate of 19% does not apply; instead the Swiss rate of 8% will be levied upon delivery.

DO STINGERS WORK IN OTHER COUNTRIES?

In the rest of Europe, conditions have largely aligned over the last few years. Old radar frequencies have mostly expired. Stinger devices now provide coverage of practically every type of measurement e.g. not just radar and laser, but also section controls, contact cables, single side sensors etc.

Thus, devices provide coverage of the vast majority of measurement methods throughout Europe; over 90% in almost all locations.
